Applying a basic calcium-magnesium fertiliser has a direct influence on the soil's fertility.
For example, the additional calcium limits the risk of aluminium poisoning in aluminium-rich soils.
The main effect of using a strong base will be to control the soil's acidity. The soil's chemical equilibrium will be improved and the plants' mineral uptake enhanced.
To sum up:
- Blocking of metal trace elements
- Efficacy of herbicides
- Limitation on NPK fertiliser applications
- Elimination of Al and Mn toxicities
- Limited leaching of N and better availability of P
- Ca and Mg enrichment
